Out with the Old, In with the …

Now that we’re into the second day of the new year, I’ve had time to reflect on what was 2018.  As always, the year was filled with happiness, sorrow, surprises aplenty and the mundane bits thrown in for good measure. As the festivities close – Happy Solstice / Happy Christmas – and preparation for the coming seasons begin, now is a great time to de clutter, minimising what you have to make room for the new.
 
Most of us always think first of de-cluttering our homes – which is always a good start and a really easy way to get the family involved.  Then, we might de-clutter our work spaces in preparation for more or new work, clear our email inboxes (one of my least favourite things to do!) and clear out the garage / shed.
 
When all that’s done and the family are proud of their efforts, do you then take time to de-clutter your personal space?  I used to think it selfish to take time out from caring for those I loved and catching up with friends or playing ‘hookey’ from work.  Until I realised that if I wasn’t functioning at maximum levels with a clear and calm head, then the wheels begin to fall off and everything comes apart.
 
After the revelry of the New Year’s celebrations are over and you’ve cleaned up the mess, take the time to de-clutter your life. Begin with your morning routine, par it back and work with only what serves you best. We are all subject to a busy and unforgiving world, so spending five minutes upon waking each morning to do a quick body scan, clearing out your head of anything that’s hanging around and unnecessary, journal your dreams if you remember them and breathe deeply. Give gratitude for the morning and your day, and then begin.
 
De-cluttering of your friends is hard but sometimes so necessary. Some people can become toxic to you over time and a lot of the time we aren’t aware of it. When you are on your own spiritual journey, you grow and expand. Sometimes others don’t. They don’t like that you change, that your attention lies elsewhere and they will do everything in their power to hold you back, to keep you the same. Toxicity quickly spreads. Nip it in the bud.
 
De-clutter the information you are subject to each day. It’s really easy these days to find a website, like an article and sign up for the newsletter. Before you know it, your inbox is bombarded with emails – hundreds of them appearing overnight, they grow like a fungus – it’s horrifying! I dread waking each morning to see how much the information ‘shroom has expanded in the time I last checked on it. I’m not sure about you, but sometimes the information is regurgitated from someone else’s article, or it’s so ‘fluffy’ I’m not sure why I’m reading it. So, my suggestion is : be ruthless. Keep the ones you know you will read daily, unsubscribe from the rest. Ten subscriptions is the maximum number you should have. If you sign up to a new email list, delete one you are already subscribed to. If you can’t, consider whether the new list is going to give you any more than you’re already getting.
 
On that, I am about to face my inbox with 5,678 messages (I kid you not, that is the actual number – should I be reading that as a synchronistic number?!) to begin 2019 with a clear mind.
 
I wish you all a safe and happy new year.  May the gods look upon us all with favour, the earth provide her bounty for us and we share with the world our unconditional love.

Walking in the darkness to find my Soul and finding Joy

My absence has been long but called for.  Every so often, in the lives of some of us, an upheaval occurs through no fault of our own.  We face our worst fears and either succumb to them or we fight.  The darkness that comes with this is devastating, it rocks us to our core and we question everything that has meaning in our lives.  We question even our own existence.  This darkness can be all consuming or, through strength, it can be an opening to our inner world and our Shadow.  The result is connecting with our Authenticity, our Truth and our JOY.

This is not my first time down this rabbit hole.  My first was thrust upon me unexpectedly as most are – extenuating circumstances led me to be (thankfully) sitting in the ER Department of our local hospital when I suffered what they called a “vasovagal faint” – generally caused by a reaction to something (mine being a potassium injection) – wherein the blood pressure plummets and the heart stops.  Life ceases – for me it was 48 seconds.  When they brought me back – cracked sternum and two broken ribs later thank you very much – I knew everything was different.  My journey into the deepest, darkest depths began.  I walked this darkness for an indeterminable about of time, pasting on my ‘Suzie Homemaker’ façade each morning all the while the turmoil of my Inner Self was raging inside.

At that time I had no one to turn to; no one to guide me and tell me what was going on.  I questioned everything – my upbringing, my beliefs, my life, my values, the world, the universe.  No stone was left unturned.  Through all this, my inner voice – the voice of reason, my guides, the Universe – helped me through each calamity, helped me answer my own questions and showed me where to look for answers.

I came out of those dark months changed.  My biggest realisation (the most obvious!) was how short life was and how little time we have to do what it is we are here to achieve.  I realised quickly that putting off till tomorrow what we truly desire is fruitless, waiting for the perfect opportunity to run with an idea was wasteful, associating with people who were so far removed from our belief system was criminal.  And so, gradually, I began to make the changes in my life I now felt were imperative.  I began my quest to better my life and the lives of my children, to guide others who are seeking to do the same, to better understand the world in which we live but to also strive to make it better.  My biggest hurdle – How?

For several years, I worked on everything I thought I needed to do in order to make my life and those around me, better.  I learnt to heal myself and others, I learnt to commune with nature and the Universe.  I learnt to trust my inner voice, the voices of my guides and the guidance sent to me from Spirit.  Yet, something was missing.  I still had a feeling there was at least one, if not several, pieces missing in the puzzle.

Several months ago I felt the darkness descend once again.  I knew this time what to expect but it is never the same.  Where before, each day was filled with a revelation, an unveiling and dusting off of pieces of the puzzle, this was a gut wrenching, heart breaking upheaval.  I spiraled with little control over any emotions.  Little, if any, light seeped into the dark tunnel.  I knew that the work I had to do was truly heart centred, baring my soul to the Universe and asking for guidance.

I wept for events ingrained in my DNA, carried down through the generations; I wept for the world as it is now and for the possible world to come if we don’t change its path.  I knew though that I couldn’t wallow even when my outer voice, my Ego, told me it would be so much easier to stay in the sadness and let all this be somebody else’s problem.  I found the inner strength to work my way out of the blackness that surrounded my soul until I found the warmth of the unconditional love of the Universe and the self-love that had eluded me for so long.  I found my JOY.

Now, even as I question my choices, I do so with a peace and calmness in my heart.  I see life as it is – I am no longer concerned with the daily grind dictated by society or the labels we each carry.  Time is no longer linear – as if by magick, I dictate how fast or slow it passes.  I understand that judgement on others is not productive nor is trying to understand them and label them – they are who they are, their choices are theirs to make and the consequences of their actions are theirs to bear – just as mine are for me.  I see the tiny threads of the web that connect all of us to each other, to the planet, to the Universe.  I see birth, life and death as a cycle not a beginning nor an end.  We are here for reasons and our life purpose is to find that reason, to learn from it, to teach it, to live it, to embrace it and, above all, to love it.

Unconditional love is not something we learn, it is not a label, it is not something we can pick up and put down.  It is a way of living.  It is what we breathe in and out every day.  It is in our actions, it is in our attitude, it is in our values and our beliefs.  It is in all of us, undiscovered and waiting.  The threads of the web bind us together, we are all the same and yet we are all different.  Stop seeing life – truly open your eyes and look at life.  Don’t just hear the world around you, stop and truly listen to all the sounds – inside the human sounds are the sounds of the universe.  Everything communicates with everything else through the threads of the web, through Spirit.

Does the darkness ever truly lift?  Does the questioning ever stop?  I don’t think so,  If it did, it would mean we would cease to exist.  Embracing change in our lives is part of our spiritual journey, as is asking questions and finding answers.

We cannot live a life of pure light, or pure forgiveness.  We cannot expect a life where no upheaval touches us – we are each here to live our human experiences which includes darkness and light, questions and answers, certainty and mistrust, inclusion and rejection.  Learning to accept and learn from these experiences is what leads us closer to understanding our purpose and living in unconditional love.

5 Tips to Raise your Vibration

Did you know that you are the main influencer of your energy and your vibration?  Your thoughts, feelings and your actions influence your reality and, as you command your reality, you have influence over your energy and vibration.  You are a part of the Universe and your energy and vibration extend beyond your physical body.  As you become more in tune with the Universe, so too your energy field extends and your vibration levels raise.  Did you know that the events in your life and the people you encounter are a reflection of your energy field and your vibration level?

Nourish your body : at some point in our lives we have all heard “your body is a temple” – that expression is the truth.  If you feed your body processed and sugary foods, your energy drops meaning your energy field contracts and your vibration levels drop resulting in apathy, frustration, short temperedness, anger and hate.  By feeding your body foods that come directly from the farm table to the plate, the natural goodness will only help your body to function at a cleaner, clearer level – your emotions and spirit will be buoyed by the earth’s richness in the vitamins and minerals.  Result?  Your energy field expands and your vibration levels lift to a level of happiness and joy.

Barefoot walking : connecting to the earth and allowing your body to be uninhibited by constrictions will help raise your vibration.  The earth emits energy frequencies and healing energies that can only permeate the body with direct skin contact and  the feet (which are natural receptors) is the best way to do it.  This is called “earthing” and the energies you gather from the earth will travel directly to your Root Chakra enhancing your safety and stability, ensuring you feel more secure and grounded in life.  I talk more about this and other ways to connect with nature here

Smile and the world smiles with you : Yes, smiling does use less facial muscles than frowning!  Which means less likelihood of premature aging (gotta love that!)  Have you ever walked down the street and passed someone who is smiling and happy?  Don’t you walk passed and feel the corners of your mouth twitch just a little?  Happiness is catchy – why not be the one who smiles at strangers and see their faces lift just a little.  Smile with joy in your heart and let it show through not just your smile but through your eyes also.  Let your happiness encompass all those you come in contact with each day.  Not only are you raising your vibration level but you are also helping others to raise theirs.

Gratitude : Too often we go through life expecting certain things to happen, whether from people or events.  Too often we don’t give gratitude for the things that others do for us, or for the day that we are about to experience or the day we have just had.  Understanding that each moment we live is the only time that moment will happen and to show gratitude for whatever that moment brings us – good or bad, happy or sad – is to truly live in the moment.  By continuously looking forward or to the past means we don’t truly live in the present moment.

Give back : When we are born into this world and we grow within our families and communities, as children we take – love, hugs, tenderness, friendship, learning – and as we grow into our teens, twenties and thirties, we learn to transform this into a ‘game’ of give and take – friendships, work relationships, partners.  Then as life progresses, opportunities arise for us to give back to those who are just starting out – our children, nieces and nephews – with the ultimate goal to be in service to all.  As part of our spiritual journey, we understand that we are all part of a great Oneness – that what we do to others, ultimately we are doing to ourselves.  To be able to give back and to be in service to others – through our work, volunteering, philanthropy or whichever means is most aligned with your life – is to honour ourselves, our teachers and the Universe.

Our Spiritual Vibration

The world of spirituality is full of terminology not used in the mainstream world.  Sometimes these terms can be hard to define succinctly and appear confusing.  One such term is to “raise your vibration” – so what does this mean?

We are all made up of energy.  This is not supposition.  This is now acknowledged scientific fact.  Energy vibrates at different levels – some energy vibrates at higher levels than other energy and as Human Beings we each have a vibration that is uniquely our own, in much the same way as we each have our own DNA.

When you raise your vibration, your frequency vibrates at a higher level – so it is very possible that you will feel that in your physical being.  As your vibration rises, you will become more aware, enlightened and ‘alive’.  This can also produce a shift in your feelings and thoughts and you will realise that you have made a shift from where you were to where you are now.

There are many of us who are knowingly, willingly and consciously raising our vibration, and working with the planet who is also raising her vibration, to help shift the world from the state of extreme Masculine energy into a higher vibrational level of peace, love and community.  A state of Feminine energy

It is important to know that there is no good or bad vibration level.  High vibrations are an indication that someone is living more in a state of love, peace, clarity, forgiveness and compassion.  Lower vibrations are an indication that someone is living in a state of fear, lust, greed, depression and ego.  Part of the reason that we as humans are here on Earth, is to raise ourselves from a lower vibration – through conscious choice – into a state of awareness and oneness with the Universe, Spirit, Divine, God or the Goddess.

With each reincarnation, our soul has the tools to undertake this process, however it can take many lifetimes to achieve – tackling the hurdles of life, learning the lessons that need to be learned and moving towards living in service to the world – the shift of moving into our Higher Self.

There are many people in our world whose vibration will not shift in their current lifetime – this is not a bad thing.  They have chosen to live in a state of un-awareness.  Each of us is here to achieve whatever it is destined for us to achieve – or not.  If you live in a state of expanding awareness to the Universe and life or you do not feel the call, you are not living in a better or worse state of vibration.  By trusting in your soul and choosing an authentic life by living in the moment, you will ‘feel’ your body’s true vibration.

Part of your awakening process – and you wouldn’t be here if you didn’t feel called to be a part of the awakening of the planet – is that you will raise to your natural vibration.  This does not make you better than others; it is simply that you are ready to acknowledge the awareness of the spiritual shift and to move into your true self.  By doing this, you are helping to raise the vibrational energy of every other living being on the planet as well as Earth herself.

As you choose to live in a higher vibration, you understand that you may no longer fit in with many of those around you – family, friends, siblings and loved ones – and you will notice that you may stand out from those around you perhaps because of the shift in your beliefs and values, or because of the change in your approach to life.  Remember though, that as you have raised your vibration, you are also raising the vibration of those around you allowing them the possibility of continuing their awakening journey.  (I will write further on this)  You will find others who live in a higher vibration – like attracts like – and together you will create communities of support, love and understanding much like this Tribe.

The Mind as Healer

During the Hay House Online Summit on Healing last week, I watched Dr Joe Dispenza’s lecture on “Programming your Mind for remarkable recovery”.  In this he discusses (amongst other things) the impact of meditation on not only our daily lives, but also on the lives of those who have suffered or are suffering, illness.  I have spent the last week thinking about meditation and what an impact it’s had on my life.

I began meditating about 14 years ago.  My yoga teacher at the time, a truly wonderful spiritual woman, always ended our yoga class with a 30minute meditation.  As a new mum, it was bliss and I couldn’t wait to go to class twice each week just to experience the meditation.  From there, I developed my own meditation practice and have made it a large part of my life with daily practice of between 5minutes to 2hours.  Two years ago I felt called to train and became certified as a Meditation Teacher so that I can help others who wish to begin or progress along their journey.

If you’ve watched any of Dr Joe’s videos, you will know that he discusses in depth the science behind meditation and what they have found in people who have incorporated a practice into their lives – they are able to heal their bodies from dis-ease, anxiety and stress.  I am also a believer in the power of the mind and our consciousness to work with Spirit and the Universe to accomplish amazing things.

Through meditation, the physiology of the body changes – each cell is imbued with more energy, the energy helps the body to feel younger and more alive.

Meditation has been proven to :

  1. Lower blood pressure;
  2. Reduce anxiety by reducing the stress hormone;
  3. Improves the immune system primarily through the decrease in stress which puts pressure on the cells of the body; and
  4. Decreases tension pain – headaches and insomnia are two ailments that benefit immensely from meditation.

Meditation aids in the healing of the body by placing the brain into an Alpha State – the mind is relaxed and the neurons are able to establish pathways as well as categorise and store information received.   We access this state naturally while we are asleep or are daydreaming.

This helps you to :

  1. Be more creative;
  2. Be emotionally stable;
  3. Develop your intuition;
  4. Increase clarity;
  5. Be more focussed; and
  6. Increase self awareness.

Normal Adult Brain Waves

By placing the body into a calm state, you are helping it repair itself and preventing new damage from the effects of stress.  By quieting the mind, you are reducing the stress induced thoughts that keep the body’s stress response triggered.  Over time, the long term resilience that is built up allows the body and the mind to recover from stressful situations far quicker and overall, experience less stress in life situations.
